CULTURAL IMPERIALISM

Cultural imperialism is the process and practice of promoting one culture over another.
Often this occurs during colonization, where one nation overpowers another country, typically one that is economically disadvantaged and/or militarily weaker. The dominant country then forces its cultural beliefs and practices onto the conquered nation. This has happened since nations have been warring, beginning with the Greek and Roman empires to the French and British empires, the American Revolution and the rise of communist governments in China and the Soviet Union to present day changes in governments around the world.

Cultural imperialism emphasizes the segmentation of the working class: stable workers are encouraged to dissociate themselves from temporary workers, who in turn separate themselves from the unemployed, who are further segmented among themselves within the 'underground economy'.

Cultural imperialism encourage working people to think of themselves as part of a hierarchy emphasizing minute differences in life style, in race and gender, with those below them rather than the vast inequalities that separate them from those above.

The concepts of cultural and media imperialism were much critiqued during the 1980s and 1990s, and many scholars preferred alternative concepts such as globalization and cultural globalization to analyze issues of intercultural contact, whether asymmetrical or otherwise. John Tomlinson critiqued the concept, identified four different discourses of cultural imperialism, and argued in favor of its substitution with the term “globalization.” Mirrlees has placed Tomlinson’s work in context by describing the dialectical—parallel but mutually aware—development of both a cultural imperialism and a cultural globalization paradigm. Both are influential in the 21st century.

Different Types of Resume

There are several basic types of resumes you can use to apply for job openings. You can choose to write a chronological, functional, combination, or a targeted resume. Each resume type is used for different purposes. Therefore, when deciding which type of resume to use, you have to think about your current circumstances.

Chronological
This is a very popular format used by many candidates. As you can understand by the name, a chronological resume focuses on the sequential history of your work. This is mostly presented in reverse chronological sequence as it starts with the recent first. This means that the resume will start with your current work and will go backward.

This type of resume allows you to show your work history well.
It works well if you have not changed jobs very frequently and could stick to 2-3 organizations maximum. This format shows your growth, your career path, and upward progression well.

Functional
A functional resume focuses on your skills and experience and de-emphasizes your work history. Employment history is secondary to the abilities you have to offer. This basic resume type is preferable if you have lapses in employment. The gaps could occur for any number of reasons such as raising a family, illness, or job loss.
It is also beneficial for new graduates who have limited employment experience or people who are in the middle of a career change. Those who have had diverse occupations with no focused career path will also find this basic resume type helpful.
Info graphic
Infographic resumes include graphic design elements in addition to or instead of text. A traditional resume uses text to list a candidate's work experience, education, and skills, while an infographic resume uses layout, color, design, formatting, icons, and font styling to organize content.
Targeted
In order to maximize your chances of landing an interview, you should tailor your resume to each potential job. Tailoring your resume involves providing information about your knowledge, skills, abilities, accomplishments, and experience that is relevant to a particular job posting. By sending a targeted resume, you can demonstrate to recruiters that you fit their desired profile.

Keys to become an excellent Orator

“Speech has power. Words do not fade. What starts as a sound, ends in a deed”.
-          Abraham Joshua

Speaking is an art. It is a well known fact that a person who has the capability to speak well can win the world. But if you don’t know how to express yourself then you might even lose what’s yours. You know how politicians win elections with the power of words. Yes, just fake and hateful speeches. Isn’t that interesting how well we know their tact to trap voters and  still fall for it? Yes, that’s the Art I’m talking about.

Now, be it in the field of Mass Media or anywhere else. One should have proper command on the languages he/she speaks in order to make an impact on others. With words you can impress or depress. From learning the basics to building your vocabulary stronger, you need teachers and training which you'd find at IAAN School of Mass Communication at New Friends Colony, New Delhi. It is one of the Best Media colleges in Delhi.

Now, coming back to the keys,we have:
1.      Get your facts right
You should know what you are saying and should have complete knowledge about the topic you’re gonna discuss. Otherwise you might encounter“Can you hear yourself” situation in no time. Getting facts right adds much to your GK and others’ too.

2.      Be a good listener
Be keen at grasping what knowledge others give you while discussing topics ( be it important or unimportant). To be a good Orator you first need to be a good listener. Be patient and let others finish their points before you start bombarding yours. There’s a whole lot of difference between a Debate and an Argument.

3.      Good Vocabulary
Add good yet understandable words to your vocabulary. Your speech should be easy to understand and should be able to grab attention of the listeners. Don’t make your vocabulary too exclusive, the language shouldn’t be alien to majority.

4.      Accent
Now accent is something which makes people judge how fake or real your are. So yes, be who you are, don’t try to act ‘too British or too Sanskrit’ because it would have you end up making a complete fool out of yourself.

5.      Learn from the existing Leaders
In this world full of Manmohan Singhs, be a Shashi Tharoor. Well, jokes apart. You learn from your parents, teachers and role models. Likewise, you should learn the art of speaking from our National Leaders too.  Adopting their style of speaking and making an impact can lead to a million possibilities. I don’t call it copying, it’s a part of the learning process.

With these keys you can achieve what ever you want. Remember, no action is stronger than words.

Media Convergence

The Term, media convergence came up at the recent In Design User Group in the context of developing interactive digital media magazines for the iPad and other upcoming media tables.  In broad strokes, it is the blending of multiple media forms into one platform for purposes of delivering a dynamic experience.

Media Convergence is the merging of mass communication outlets – print, television, radio, the Internet along with portable and interactive technologies through various digital media platforms.
Firstly how has media convergence and the switch to the use of so much technology affected the production and distribution of news?

HOW MEDIA CONVERGENCE AFFECT COMMUNICATION (JOURNALISM)

At first the newspaper/magazine industry reacted poorly and to me a major part of the cause of their steep decline has been in part their own inaction and lack of preparing for the future, a predicted future, which they themselves had reported and covered.

Media Convergence, phenomenon involving the interconnection of information and communications technologies, computer networks, and media content. It brings together the "three C' s'- computing, communication and content-and is a direct consequence of the digitization of media content and the popularization of the internet. Media Convergence transforms established industries, services, and work practiced and enables entirely new forms of content to emerge.

Types of Paper for Printing

Choosing from the various types of paper available on the market is a key factor in achieving top quality digital printing. You need to choose the paper that type is best suited to bringing out the visual and textual contents of our publishing or graphic design project, a choice that should be made carefully and that will vary depending on the type of product you wish to print.

Printing paper types
Printing paper comes in many different types, each with different uses and benefits. Here are some of the most popular types of printing paper:
Inkjet Printer Paper
This type of paper is designed for specific use with inkjet printers. There are different forms of inkjet paper which work well with inkjet ink, including photo, glossy, business card, and greeting card variants.
Laser Printer Paper
Laser paper is best used with a laser printer. This is used more in business environments for tasks such as printing documents, cheques, and mailing labels.
Matte
Matt paper is the opposite to gloss – it is coated with a matte finish to produce a paper that isn’t shiny, preventing glare. This type of paper is perfect for reports, flyers and leaflets.

Bright White
Bright white paper sheets are much smoother and are non-textured, which makes them ideal for high-quality, presentable double-sided printing.
Glossy
Gloss paper is typically used for flyers and brochures as it has a high shine. As the ink dries well there is no need for a seal varnish as the ink does not rub off.

Silk coated paper
The interim between gloss and matte, silk coated paper has a smooth silky coating, leaving it smooth to the touch but without the shine of glass paper. This type of paper can be used for many things such as magazines, books and catalogs.

Bond Paper
This type of paper is stronger and more durable than the average sheet of paper. Instead of being made from low grade wood pulp, it is mostly made up of rag pulp.
It’s perfect for letterheads, typed reports and envelopes.
