Media Education

In this modern era of ever increasing hunger for information, media plays the major role. Common citizens are dependent on media wholly for all the international, national or regional information or news. This dependency, however increases the responsibility of media personnel and thus increases the demand of media organizations for employees. This is fact that not everyone can easily become a media person but then we see this problem being solved by ‘media education’ introduced to the vast world of education.

Education of media is quite different from other subjects and for this, you need to understand some basic points if you are an aspirant for the same. The one basic thing for media education is the practical knowledge of working. You cannot learn media sitting in a classroom. You have to explore a lot. Following are some points that would help you to choose the right institute/college/University for your media education:

1.       Faculties from Field: The College should have faculties that have worked professionally in field. This experience really affects the way of guidance and ultimately learning of students.

2.       Equipment and Softwares: The college should hold equipments that are must for the media training for example Teleprompter for TV news anchoring, Radio Lab, Video Editing Machine and software, Computer lab, Photo Editing Softwares, Cameras for photography and Videography, Studio equipped with Chroma, movable and non-movable lights and other audio-visual related equipments and softwares.

3.       Focus on Practical training: The College should have a practical curriculum along with the theory aspect.

4.       Special training programs: Whether the college has some special or different activities like campus newspaper or a production team to ensure the practical training of students would be a plus point.

5.       Updation of curriculum: With the introduction of new technologies, there have been various amendments in the working culture of media. One should ensure that the college has social media, web media or new media in its curriculum.

It is true that every student dreams of a big campus in their graduation college but it cannot be a condition for media students. Even if a college doesn’t have big campus but the right infrastructure and faculties, you are at right place. Profession in media is so wide, interesting and creative that once you are trained, the campus you will get to explore would be larger than the scope of any other profession.
